Ideas to Save Costs

Monday, January 26th, 2009

I have noticed a couple of areas that could probably work out to be major cost savings. The first is the number of duplicate/triplicate laboratory reports received. At present, we receive one value on a full sheet of paper with “pending” next to other values or just one value reported, then as other values become available we will receive faxed copies of these each time a new value is added. On top of this, we will receive a copy of all values via fax, in the mail and from health records and sometimes from the clinics too. This is an enormous waste of paper and I have tried over my ten years within this community to have this addressed for one particular dept in particular with no luck at all. I think the number of copies that are distributed on one patient can be cut down to only one. If it is a “stat” value then it should be only called to a unit, clinic or physician and a paper copy sent only when all the values are available and then only one copy is needed not thre e.

The other area may sound silly, but I’m sure the water bill for CDHA is huge!
There are washrooms around the complex that have dripping taps and toilets that once they are flushed seem to go one forever, water is literally being flushed down the drain. I’m sure if you can get domestic toilets that conserve water, there must be a way to adjust or replace the toilets that use way too much water to flush a little piddle away!!.

Balancing our Budget, Press Conference December 2, 2008

Our Promise is about creating a world leading haven for people-centred health, healing and learning.

We created this vision in response to inconvenient truths about our health care system and ourselves.

We know that the current system is not sustainable. And we know that to realize our vision will require that we face tough issues and make difficult decisions. As stated in our Declaration of Health:

We acknowledge a reality of finite resources; yet in accepting limits, we commit to pushing against them to achieve more, ever mindful that our decisions and actions must be just, equitable and for our greater good.
