We should strive to choose leaders as managers.

What is leadership?  Can leadership be taught?  Are leaders born not made?  What are the qualities that define a leader?  How do we define those qualities?

A good leader is an enabler.  (Thanks Lea Bryden, I love that description!) A leader enables staff to be their best.  A real leader finds ways to make others shine.  It is not about making you look good, it is about making your staff look good.  It is not about looking for credit for yourself or your program, it is about assigning credit to others at every opportunity.  It is not about protecting turf, it is about being responsible for the public purse, creative sharing and use of resources. It is about thanking people for being there that day.  And meaning it. (more…)

Infusion 2008

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

In November 2008, Capital Health invited practitioners in the art of leadership from around the world to participate in Infusion 2008. The goal of the event was to explore what kind of leadership is required to guide Capital Health as we transform into a world leading haven for people-centred health, healing and learning. In this video, our Graphic Facilitator, Susan MacLeod, has captured some of the ideas and inspirations that were sparked during this two day event.

My Leadership

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Over the past six months, a team of people from all parts of Capital Health have come together to define the capabilities and behaviours we aspire to experience in our leaders.

The result is a document called My Leadership (see attached or visit the Leadershift page on our Intranet). This is our best attempt to describe in clear terms what we want and need in our leaders. Now it’s your turn to contribute to this definition.

Participate in a brief survey (hosted by a third party) by June 26. Your feedback will help us create the kind of leadership culture at Capital Health that will bring the words in Our Promise to life in our everyday interactions.
